Tai Chi – 17 May
Although originally developed as a martial art system, our Tai Chi classes are conducted in a tranquil environment with music to provide a gentle and pleasurable means of attaining and maintaining health and harmony in both mind and body, mobility, suppleness and mental alertness.
The benefits of Tai Chi are well recognised by practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) who are frequently Tai Chi instructors themselves and recommend the art as the physiotherapy of TCM.
One of the main benefits of Tai Chi is to balance the electrical polarity within the body, which is referred to as the Yin and Yang. Each is as important as the other and both are necessary to maintain balance and harmony. This balancing effect is far more important than we realize, because once the system becomes unbalanced and disharmonized, stress and illness occurs.
Just as important as maintaining balance in the electrical polarity of the body, is allowing a free flow of the internal energy called Chi (Qi) or life force.
There is a Chinese saying “Whoever practices Tai Chi diligently will gain the pliability of a child, the health of a lumberjack and the peace of mind of a sage…”
