Associate Professor Nicolas Hart, PhD AES CSCS ESSAF

A/Prof Nicolas Hart is a leading expert in cancer survivorship and an NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow at the INSIGHT Research Institute, UTS. His research focuses on improving quality of life for people with cancer, addressing exercise, nutrition, psychosocial care, and symptom management, all of which align with Think Pink’s mission to support those affected by breast cancer.
He has secured >$17.5 million in research funding, leading national and international trials on exercise medicine, survivorship care, and interventions to improve treatment outcomes. His work has directly contributed to guidelines for supportive care in advanced cancer, including exercise recommendations for patients with bone metastases—a key area of concern for many Think Pink clients.
A/Prof Hart is a global leader in cancer rehabilitation, serving as MASCC Chair of Fatigue and Founding Chair of Exercise Oncology. He has contributed to international survivorship care standards, co-developed the WHO’s cancer rehabilitation guidelines, and leads research aimed at improving mental wellbeing, physical health, and overall survivorship for breast cancer patients—all of which support Think Pink’s vision of holistic care.

Dr Darren Haywood, PhD, BPsych(Hons), Dip. Fit

Dr Darren Haywood is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Cancer Survivorship at the INSIGHT Research Institute, UTS. His work spans mental health, cognitive functioning, and models of care across all stages of cancer survivorship. He also investigates mechanisms driving psychopathology in broader populations.
A MASCC Cognition Fellowship Recipient, Dr Haywood has secured multiple research grants and is an active member of leading research groups, including MASCC, IPOS, PC4, COSA, PoCoG, and the HiTOP Consortium. He holds leadership roles as Co-Chair of the UTS Mental Health Research Network and Committee Member of the IPOS Early Career Professionals in Psycho-Oncology group.
He holds adjunct/honorary positions at the University of Melbourne, St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, and Curtin University, with his work featured in media outlets such as The Limbic and OncoDaily. He has also shared insights on Triple R 102.7FM regarding cancer-related cognitive impairment.
