  • Fabulous over 50s Support Group
     18/06/2024
     1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Join us via Zoom for our Fabulous over 50’s Support Group with guest speaker Caity Smith-Gilles Dietitian and Nutritionist.

CAITY SMITH-GILLIS
Accredited Practising Dietitian & Accredited Nutritionist

Caity’s online class will explore the unique nutrition needs of those going through breast cancer treatment, recovery and optimising diet for survivorship.

Nutrition plays a powerful role in managing energy levels and side effects during treatment, optimising weight and body composition during and after treatment and reducing the risk of breast cancer recurrence.

Nutrition advice can be overwhelming and confusing, Caity will clarify the fact from fiction and there will be plenty of opportunity to answer your individual questions.

N.B Caity is happy to incorporate any nutritional questions you may have so please send them through to Jamie as soon as possible.

Caity is committed to providing evidence-based dietetic care that is equitable, accessible, and culturally appropriate for her clients. She has several clinical areas of interest including oncology nutrition, women’s health and reproductive nutrition, disordered eating, Non-Diet Approach and Health At Every Size®, and preventative and general nutrition.

Prior to realising dietetics was her dream career, Caity completed a bachelor’s degree majoring in psychology. These skills are something she now uses to enhance her dietetic approach and to create a supportive and safe environment for her clients.

She is also passionate about evidence-based nutrition advice, having contributed to prostate and lung cancer nutrition research at Deakin University and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

In her down time Caity can be found curled up with a good book, trekking across Melbourne in search of the best almond croissant/strong latte combo or still trying to perfect that sourdough bread that she started during the Melbourne lockdown.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out in the interim.

A diagnosis of breast cancer can bring many challenges and sometimes we might not feel that fabulous. Whether you have just turned 50 or are beyond, this group is for you.

In this group you will have an opportunity to meet others who are travelling a similar life path and to share your experiences. This group offers women a chance to connect with others, learn coping strategies and gather information. We discuss how we can best support you through this journey.  The sessions are a safe space to share, learn and help each other get through this hurdle. The sessions are run by our Breast Care Nurse Consultant Jamie Kelly and we are often joined by a guest speaker to offer their expertise on a particular breast cancer topic or health related topic.
